This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Oversee the architectural and technical decisions for Greyspace, specifying service boundaries, data ownership, API contracts, and failure behavior.
β’ Create and implement services that configure, deploy, and manage simulated internet environments.
β’ Take ownership of essential implementation tasks and transform prototypes into maintainable, tested software solutions.
β’ Develop realistic behaviors for networks and applications encompassing DNS, certificates, routing, web, and mail services.
β’ Validate comprehensive workflows from a range host through simulated services and back.
β’ Create reusable services while managing configuration, credentials, mutable states, and faults independently.
β’ Conduct tests to ensure containment and prevent unintended access between environments or live networks.
β’ Define versioned integration contracts in collaboration with platform, range, and emulation teams.
β’ Collaborate on operator workflows for configuration, readiness checks, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.
β’ Translate training requirements into prioritized use cases, acceptance criteria, and incremental delivery plans.
β’ Lead the scoping and estimation processes and validate high-risk decisions through focused technical proofs.
β’ Enhance reliability through automated integration tests, observability, performance testing, recovery procedures, and validation of deployments and upgrades.
β’ Guide design and code reviews while addressing cross-service technical risks.
β’ Establish engineering standards that promote reliable delivery.
β’ Mentor senior engineers through hands-on collaboration.
β’ Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
β’ Currently serving as a Staff or Senior Software Engineer.
β’ Proven track record in building distributed applications, platform services, or networked systems.
β’ Experience in leading technically complex projects across multiple teams.
β’ Capability to design, build, and deliver production-grade distributed services throughout the entire software development lifecycle.
β’ Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, and TLS.
β’ Hands-on experience in diagnosing behaviors across application, service, and network boundaries.
β’ Experience in designing multi-tenant or distributed systems with well-defined isolation, state management, API boundaries, and failure recovery processes.
β’ Proven ability to influence technical standards and architectural decisions across various teams.
β’ Strong judgment in scoping and estimation.
β’ Excellent communication skills to articulate complex architecture, networking behaviors, and engineering trade-offs.
β’ Proficient in a modern backend programming language.
β’ Familiar with software engineering practices, including API design, service decomposition, automated testing, code review, and CI/CD.
β’ Hands-on experience with Linux, containers, and Kubernetes, encompassing service deployment and troubleshooting.
β’ Comfortable operating amidst uncertainty and shaping a loosely defined roadmap.
β’ Experience in security-sensitive or compliance-driven settings, such as DoD, FedRAMP, or SOC 2, is highly advantageous.
β’ Familiarity with cyber ranges, simulations, or internet service infrastructure is a plus.
