Staff Software Engineer – AI Runtime

📋 Description

• Develop and implement systems for API discovery, schema comprehension, and secure agent-to-API orchestration at an enterprise level.

• Take responsibility for search, ranking, relevance, or query-planning challenges that are crucial for how agents access and utilize APIs and data.

• Rapidly prototype, assess various algorithmic strategies, and refine based on insights gained from customer pilots.

• Construct and assess agentic systems, including frameworks for tool-calling, agent orchestration, and monitoring/evaluation tools.

• Work in collaboration with a small, context-rich team to influence architecture and strategic direction.

• Interact with select enterprise clients piloting Constellation to gain insights into usage patterns.

• Articulate technical trade-offs to technical leadership and assist in shaping the roadmap.

• Contribute to Apollo's Constellation control plane for AI agents, facilitating safe discovery, comprehension, and coordination across enterprise APIs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical, production experience managing a search, ranking, relevance, or query-planning system at a significant scale.

• Background in designing and refining the core search, ranking, relevance, or query-planning logic, rather than solely integrating a third-party search solution.

• Experience experimenting with various algorithmic techniques to tackle challenging retrieval or ranking issues and articulating the associated trade-offs.

• Ability to define problems in uncertain environments and adjust to quickly changing priorities.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to operate within a small, agile team with minimal procedural overhead.

• A growth-oriented mindset.

• Production experience with Rust is highly advantageous but not mandatory.

• Experience in developing agent orchestration, tool-calling frameworks, or systems for agent evaluation/monitoring.

• Familiarity with RAG systems and accountability for retrieval quality.

• Background in distributed query engines, federated query planning, or database query optimization.

• Must possess authorization to work in the United States or Canada; visa sponsorship needs will be addressed during the application process.
