Staff Software Development Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +43 more states.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain backend microservices leveraging Java/JEE and Spring Boot.

• Create secure, efficient, and resilient RESTful APIs.

• Implement event-driven architectures utilizing Apache Kafka, which includes producers, consumers, schema evolution, partitioning, and consumer groups.

• Model and interchange JSON data with strong validation, versioning, and backward compatibility.

• Develop and uphold CI/CD pipelines featuring testing, static analysis, artifact promotion, and progressive delivery.

• Incorporate automated security measures, including SAST, DAST, dependency and image scanning, along with secrets management.

• Apply 12-factor application principles, infrastructure-as-code, and best practices in configuration management.

• Integrate backend services with EHR systems and healthcare data standards such as HL7 v2, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, and CCD/C-CDA.

• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, data governance, platform security, and encryption standards.

• Take ownership of production readiness concerning availability, latency, throughput, and cost efficiency.

• Troubleshoot production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and drive reliability enhancements using SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.

• Implement structured logging, metrics, and tracing for effective monitoring and incident response.

• Engage in architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design discussions.

• Mentor junior engineers to foster their development.

• Collaborate with product, architecture, security, and DevOps teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional software development experience.

• More than 5 years of experience in developing backend applications using Java/JEE, Spring Boot, and Node.js.

• Proven experience in building RESTful microservices and distributed systems.

• At least 3 years of experience deploying and managing services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), utilizing GKE or Cloud Run, IAM, and managed data services.

• Practical experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms.

• Strong knowledge of REST API design, JSON data modeling, and OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.

• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerized workloads, including Docker; familiarity with Kubernetes is preferred.

• Solid understanding of OAuth2/OIDC, TLS, and secrets management.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (High School diploma plus 4 years of relevant experience).

• Preferred experience in healthcare, regulated systems, or large-scale data integration platforms.

• Cloud certification is preferred.

• Familiarity with Spanner, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, or similar managed data services.

• Familiarity with Grafana and Splunk.

• Certification as a Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) is a plus.

• Strong skills in debugging, performance profiling, and operational troubleshooting.
