Staff Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and advancement of AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, and shared platform services.

• Create architectural frameworks for infrastructure automation, service delivery, regional capabilities, and ephemeral environments.

• Develop reusable platform functionalities, self-service workflows, and practices ensuring release safety.

• Enhance infrastructure-as-code and declarative methodologies, including capabilities related to Terraform and Crossplane.

• Elevate platform reliability, observability, security, performance, and operability.

• Engage in on-call duties and incident response, spearheading improvements following incidents.

• Propel high-impact projects across various teams while balancing reliability, security, cost, developer experience, and speed of delivery.

• Set platform standards, minimize technical debt, and direct design choices.

• Collaborate with feature teams to transform platform requirements into robust solutions.

• Mentor engineers and enhance the technical standards across the Engineering team.

• Refine documentation, runbooks, interfaces, and self-service pathways.

• Communicate effectively and foster alignment among Platform, Application Engineering, Data Engineering, Product, Program Management, and Security teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, SRE, DevOps, or software engineering with significant production-platform responsibilities.

• Extensive experience in designing and managing cloud platforms, preferably AWS.

• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, including production operations, networking, reliability, and troubleshooting.

• Proficient in infrastructure-as-code and automation using Terraform, Crossplane, or similar tools.

• Experience with operating CI/CD and delivery infrastructure.

• Strong understanding of IAM, secrets management, networking, ingress, and least privilege principles.

• Familiarity with observability and operational practices in distributed systems.

• Proficient in Go and Python for developing platform services, developer tools, or automation solutions.

• Proven track record of successfully leading complex initiatives across multiple teams.

• Exceptional communication, mentoring, and technical influence capabilities.

• Preferred: experience with multi-region or multi-environment SaaS platforms.

• Preferred: exposure to internal developer platforms, declarative APIs, or Platform-as-a-Service solutions.

• Preferred: experience with GitLab CI/CD, self-hosted runners, OpenTelemetry, or Datadog.

• Preferred: background in ephemeral environments, automated provisioning, or platform lifecycle management.

• Preferred: experience in security-sensitive, regulated, or cybersecurity fields.

• Preferred: experience in startup or high-growth organizations.

• Must possess legal authorization to work in the United States.

• Exact matches to tools are less critical than having strong platform fundamentals, sound judgment, and comprehensive ownership of production systems.
