Staff Performance Engineer, Firefox

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop code and tests, create prototypes, address challenges, and evaluate performance bottlenecks.

• Acquire knowledge and resolve issues within a vast, intricate, and continuously evolving codebase.

• Utilize C++, JavaScript, Kotlin, Rust, and Python to address performance challenges, with a focus on C++ and JavaScript.

• Provide education to engineers from different teams through code reviews, presentations, tools, and documentation.

• Decompose complex performance issues into actionable steps and ensure their successful execution.

• Collaborate with engineering teams throughout the organization to lead and support performance initiatives.

• Contribute to the direction of performance benchmarks and prioritize key enhancements.

• Take ownership of browser performance in a significant area from start to finish and assist in shaping the Performance team's technical strategy.

• Collaborate with team members to deliver the Open Web to millions of users.

⛳️ Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, with 5+ years of relevant experience.

• Extensive expertise in C++.

• Proficient in JavaScript.

• Demonstrated experience in developing software that is performance-critical.

• A methodical and experimental approach to problem-solving, utilizing measurements and experiments.

• Proven ability in troubleshooting and analyzing performance bottlenecks, employing profiling tools like VTune and Xperf.

• Familiarity with at least one of the following: multithreading and concurrency, disk I/O, or GPU tasks.

• History of successfully driving projects to fruition, including tasks involving multiple engineers.

• Experience in working collaboratively with engineers from other teams to achieve shared objectives.

• Enthusiasm and capability to operate within a distributed team, demonstrating strong asynchronous written and verbal communication skills.
