Staff Machine Learning Engineer – Gen AI, Voice & Speech

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and develop machine learning infrastructure, tools, and models to enhance customer experiences to a world-class level.

• Create both internal and external products and platforms that enable AI features and enhance customer-facing products.

• Convert product objectives into engineering strategies, constructing scalable and resilient data integration and event-processing services.

• Assist product and development teams in comprehending the data lifecycle while providing guidance on common machine learning patterns and trade-offs.

• Coach and collaborate with various teams to elevate technical standards across the organization.

• Write cloud-based code that is high-quality, efficient, sustainable, and easily testable.

• Stay updated on industry trends and direct strategic technology initiatives accordingly.

• Establish company-wide benchmarks for engineering excellence, observability, and the reliability of distributed systems.

• Mentor Staff and Senior Engineers within the Data Fellowship.

• Promote advanced architectural thinking through design reviews, documentation standards, and hands-on mentorship.

• Foster enduring technical capabilities within the organization.

• Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Staff Engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders.

• Report directly to the Senior Director of Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building and deploying machine learning-driven B2B multi-tenant applications in a production environment at scale for external clients.

• Extensive knowledge of distributed-systems architecture, including services that manage hundreds of millions of transactions and terabytes of data.

• Over 15 years of experience in Machine Learning or AI, particularly focused on audio and voice Generative AI solutions at scale.

• In-depth expertise with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, fine-tuning, high-scale audio/voice models, and LLM evaluations.

• Strong experience with scalable relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL at scale, Vitess, and Spanner.

• Solid background in scalable NoSQL databases, including Bigtable and Redis.

• Hands-on experience with GCP or AWS cloud-native infrastructures.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code practices, and designing highly available systems.

• Proven history of leading cross-team technical initiatives that yield measurable business results.

• Ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority, build consensus across organizational lines, and articulate technical trade-offs in business terms.

• Substantial production experience delivering customer-facing Generative AI solutions at scale.

• Experience in constructing low-latency, high-accuracy AI agents.

• Essential deep production experience in delivering impactful audio or voice solutions to external products at scale.

• Experience in compliance-heavy sectors such as healthcare or fintech.

• Skill in navigating regulatory requirements during technical design processes.

• Demonstrated external technical leadership through open-source contributions, conference presentations, or published technical writings.

• Successful completion of a background check is required.

• Must have legal eligibility to work in the United States.
