Staff Engineer, Software

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Define the technical direction, make decisions on build versus buy, establish architecture, and take ownership of the technical roadmap in collaboration with product leadership.

• Clarify ambiguous tasks, assess risks, break down initiatives into manageable increments, and facilitate alignment across teams.

• Design and implement scalable pipelines, resilient services, and high-performance production systems.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot.

• Assess and incorporate AI/ML capabilities, such as LLMs, embeddings, and classification models into production environments.

• Lead technical initiatives across teams, including RFCs, architectural evaluations, and consensus-building on technical choices.

• Manage systems from the requirements stage through to release and ongoing production operations.

• Monitor SLOs/SLIs, address production issues, and enhance system reliability.

• Elevate engineering standards through code review, mentorship, technical documentation, and the modeling of best practices.

• Navigate unfamiliar codebases, dissect problems, make steady progress, and articulate trade-offs during technical interviews.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in Python, which is the primary backend language.

• Demonstrated experience in shipping production code in at least two programming languages.

• Proven experience in designing and managing production systems that serve real users at scale.

• Background in making significant architectural decisions.

• Experience in leading cross-team technical initiatives without formal authority.

• Strong instincts in system design, including understanding failure modes, data flow, scalability, and operational costs.

• Extensive DevOps and operational expertise with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP), CI/CD, and observability.

• A history of mentoring engineers and enhancing team standards.

• Preferred experience with large-scale migrations or platform rewrites.

• Hands-on experience with AI/ML in production, particularly with LLMs, BERT, NLP pipelines, or document understanding systems is preferred.

• Familiarity with engineering-wide standards, practices, or tooling is preferred.

• Preferred experience in content processing, enrichment, or search systems at scale.

• Familiarity with Java is preferred.

• Experience with GitOps, ArgoCD, or Infrastructure as Code is preferred.

• Active engagement with AI-assisted development tools in daily engineering practices is preferred.
