Staff Engineer – Pricing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Develop and refine the Pricing API for RED, tem's innovative utility product.

• Ensure that pricing systems operate swiftly, accurately, reliably, and are accessible to third parties.

• Spearhead the extraction of pricing logic into a distinct service with well-defined boundaries.

• Determine the appropriate time to transition to the new pricing service once it is stable.

• Create detection, alerting, and explainability systems to address issues with inaccurate or slow pricing.

• Enhance pricing efficiency for every customer quote.

• Elevate engineering standards through design reviews, collaborative work, and multi-agent workflows.

• Manage live pricing incidents, transforming insights into structural improvements on the roadmap.

• Set prices for genuine energy contracts for businesses purchasing electricity and renewable generators selling it.


⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in backend Python development, with a focus on designing and managing APIs at scale.

• Experience leading a significant decoupling or migration of an active system without disrupting dependencies.

• Proficient in FastAPI and SQL.

• Familiarity with data- and analytics-intensive systems where numerical accuracy has financial implications.

• Capability to establish technical direction across teams and negotiate service boundaries with adjacent teams.

• Experience in designing multi-agent workflows utilizing Claude or similar tools.

• Judicious product engineering skills that balance speed, precision, and explainability.

• Desirable: domain expertise in energy pricing, fintech, or neo-utilities.

• Desirable: experience in building APIs utilized by external third parties.

• Desirable: familiarity with AWS and serverless architectures, including Lambda, event-driven services, and Postgres on RDS.

• Desirable: experience with Polars or a proven record of optimizing numerical code for performance.

• Proficient in English, with strong speaking, reading, and writing abilities.
