Staff Engineer, Checkout Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Design and develop the future headless checkout platform for Redcare Pharmacy.

• Create scalable, channel-agnostic checkout functionalities, covering everything from technical discovery and design to implementation and production.

• Define APIs, domain boundaries, and integration patterns effectively.

• Make informed decisions regarding scalability, reliability, security, observability, and maintainability.

• Collaborate with Checkout, Payment, and related teams on technical decisions and integration agreements.

• Mentor engineers through collaborative efforts, design discussions, code reviews, and providing technical feedback.

• Elevate engineering standards throughout the team.

• Work alongside Product to convert business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

• Lay the groundwork for AI-driven assistants, agentic commerce, and new channels.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in Java and backend engineering.

• Experience in designing and developing backend services, platforms, and large-scale distributed systems.

• Proven hands-on experience in production coding.

• Staff/Principal-level experience or equivalent senior technical leadership.

• Strong skills in system design and architecture.

• Capability to assume significant technical ownership with a high degree of autonomy.

• Experience in a greenfield/0-to-1 setting.

• Ability to explore alternatives, assess trade-offs, and make practical technical decisions.

• Established record of mentoring engineers and leading through influence.

• Familiarity with headless or traditional checkout systems, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce, or marketplaces is an advantage, though not mandatory.
