Staff Engineer, Checkout Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance the Core Commerce Services platform.

• Design scalable, channel-agnostic checkout functionalities from technical exploration and design to implementation and production.

• Specify APIs, domain boundaries, and integration methodologies.

• Make practical choices concerning scalability, reliability, security, observability, and long-term maintenance.

• Ensure alignment of technical choices and integration agreements across Checkout, Payment, and associated teams.

• Maintain clear ownership boundaries within the team.

• Guide engineers through collaborative coding, design discussions, code reviews, and providing technical feedback.

• Elevate engineering standards throughout the team.

• Collaborate with Product teams to convert business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

• Lay the groundwork for AI-enhanced assistants, agentic commerce, and new channels.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in Java and backend engineering.

• Experience in designing and constructing backend services, platforms, and large-scale distributed systems.

• Direct involvement in writing production code.

• Experience at the Staff/Principal level or equivalent senior technical leadership.

• Strong capabilities in system design and architecture.

• Ability to assume substantial technical ownership with a high degree of independence.

• Comfort in a greenfield or 0-to-1 project environment.

• Skill in exploring options, assessing trade-offs, and making sound technical decisions.

• Proven history of mentoring engineers and leading through influence.

• Capability to foster alignment across different engineering domains.

• Familiarity with headless or traditional checkout, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce, or marketplaces is a valuable asset, though not mandatory.
