Staff Engineer, Checkout Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance the Core Commerce Services platform along with scalable, channel-agnostic checkout functionalities.

• Oversee technical discovery, design, implementation, and delivery to production.

• Specify APIs, domain boundaries, and integration frameworks.

• Make informed decisions concerning scalability, reliability, security, observability, and long-term sustainability.

• Ensure alignment of technical choices and integration agreements among Checkout, Payment, and associated teams.

• Guide engineers through collaborative coding, design discussions, code evaluations, and technical insights.

• Elevate engineering standards and foster alignment across various engineering domains.

• Collaborate with Product teams to convert business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

• Lay the groundwork for AI-driven assistants, agentic commerce, and emergent channels.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in Java and backend engineering.

• Proven experience in designing and constructing backend services, platforms, and large-scale distributed systems.

• Active involvement in producing production-ready code.

• Experience at the Staff/Principal level or equivalent in senior technical leadership roles.

• Strong capabilities in system design and architecture.

• Capacity to take substantial technical ownership with a high degree of autonomy.

• Experience in greenfield or 0-to-1 environments.

• Ability to evaluate alternatives, assess trade-offs, and make practical technical choices.

• Established history of mentoring engineers and leading through influence.

• Familiarity with headless or traditional checkout, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce, or marketplaces is a valuable asset, though not mandatory.
