This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Define impactful AI functionalities for tradespeople and transform emerging capabilities into dependable, observable production product experiences.
• Influence architectural direction and cross-team system attributes alongside fellow Staff Engineers.
• Empower individual teams to develop and deliver solutions independently.
• Establish data models and semantics for AI-driven workflows.
• Differentiate operational data from knowledge and provide contextual insights for product utilization.
• Shape the development and assessment of customer-facing AI functionalities.
• Enhance AI-driven software engineering tools, workflows, standards, and practices.
• Advance shared architecture and engineering standards through RFCs and ADRs.
• Oversee intricate initiatives from discovery and technical design to implementation, monitoring, and ongoing enhancement.
• Identify valuable technical capabilities, architectural upgrades, and engineering practices for investment.
• Elevate architecture, developer experience, AI-driven engineering practices, and codebase quality across teams.
• Mentor engineers through collaboration, architectural guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Proven track record of technical leadership.
• Background in designing, deploying, and managing complex production systems at scale.
• Familiarity with distributed architectures, asynchronous or multi-step workflows, event-driven services, data pipelines, or ETL pipelines.
• Practical understanding of reliability and observability.
• Strong fundamentals in typed languages and a polyglot mindset.
• Proficiency in TypeScript or the ability to become productive quickly.
• Experience with React, serverless Node.js/Express, and GCP, or relevant experience from another modern cloud environment.
• Capability to distinguish operational data from knowledge and design intentionally for both.
• Strong skills in system design and domain modeling.
• Hands-on experience with dependency injection, adapters, ensuring invalid states are unrepresentable, and implementing parse-don’t-validate principles.
• Strong product-oriented thinking and evidence-driven customer problem solving.
• Ability to sway technical direction across teams and align Engineering, Product, and business stakeholders without formal authority.
• Frequent use of AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, or Codex.
• Broad T-shaped engineering profile with expertise in at least one area.
• C1 level proficiency in English.
• Proficiency in German is a bonus, but not essential.
• Must possess the legal right to work in the EU or the specific country where the role is located; visa or work permit sponsorship is not available.
