This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more countries.
β’ Act as the technical leader for software that integrates various business and engineering workflows.
β’ Define the architecture and technical strategy across underwriting, rating, claims, and shared services.
β’ Conduct design reviews and provide guidance to teams on intricate design and implementation choices.
β’ Propel extensive technical initiatives from inception to completion, clearly communicating their value, status, and progress.
β’ Design and develop essential frontend and backend components utilizing TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, and Python.
β’ Analyze complex systems while linking technical excellence to business results.
β’ Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineering managers, and domain experts to devise scalable solutions.
β’ Enhance engineering quality through design documentation, code reviews, observability, and CI/CD practices.
β’ Mentor senior engineers, facilitate team progress, share institutional knowledge, and foster staff-level contributions.
β’ Evaluate build-vs-buy decisions and prioritize technology investments that enhance underwriting and rating/data capabilities.
β’ Design and implement LLM-powered workflows to boost productivity for underwriters and operators.
β’ Over 8 years of experience in software engineering, showcasing Staff-level (or equivalent) impact.
β’ Demonstrated leadership in navigating ambiguous, multi-quarter technical initiatives across teams.
β’ Capability to design comprehensive systems and data models arising from business domain use cases.
β’ A robust systems mindset with a focus on extensibility, scalability, performance, maintainability, testability, and operability.
β’ Proven history of uplifting peers through architecture reviews, mentorship, and effective technical communication.
β’ Strong full-stack fluency, with a preference for TypeScript/JavaScript and Python.
β’ Experience with CI/CD methodologies, including GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, or similar tools.
β’ Proficiency in production debugging and observability.
β’ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
β’ Ability to influence engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
β’ Skill in deconstructing complex, ambiguous technical tasks into manageable deliverables, organized by value and dependency.
β’ Prior experience in startup or high-growth environments (preferred).
β’ Experience in insurance, fintech, or other regulated sectors (preferred).
β’ Familiarity with JS/TS, HTML, CSS/SCSS, React, Angular, and Node.js (preferred).
β’ Experience in integrating third-party platforms (preferred).
β’ Candidates in the U.S. must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
