Staff Embedded Software Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain dependable, high-quality embedded software for both spacecraft and ground-based systems that support an expanding fleet of satellites.

• Engage in Linux networking infrastructure, encompassing routing, control-plane, and dataplane integration.

• Create software for FPGA-based platforms, which includes bring-up, driver integration, and the optimization of memory-mapped interfaces between processing cores and custom IP.

• Generate automated tests, validation tools, and technical documentation to facilitate robust software delivery and ensure long-term maintainability.

• Take part in software architecture discussions, design evaluations, and code assessments.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish system requirements, troubleshoot complex issues, and enhance system architecture.

• Recognize performance deficiencies, reliability hazards, and architectural limitations, driving improvements throughout the software stack.

• Offer technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers while contributing to engineering best practices and development standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in embedded software development.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

• Proficient in C and modern C++ programming languages.

• Experience in developing software for embedded Linux environments.

• Familiarity with operating system internals, including concurrency, IPC, synchronization, memory management, and hardware/software interfaces.

• Ability to integrate and troubleshoot complex software systems across various abstraction layers.

• Knowledge of embedded build systems and toolchains such as Yocto/OpenEmbedded, Buildroot, CMake, or similar.

• Capability to debug and optimize software in resource-constrained or performance-sensitive environments.

• Strong communication and collaboration abilities in cross-functional engineering settings.

• Proficient at working effectively with distributed teams and across different time zones.

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

• Experience in developing software for aerospace applications.

• Background in implementing embedded security solutions, including secure boot, hardware security modules (HSMs), certificate/key management, authentication, or encrypted communications.

• Understanding of Linux networking concepts and infrastructure, including routing, interfaces, netlink, or packet-processing pipelines.

• Experience in developing multi-stage bootloaders.

• Strong command of computer networking and contemporary networking protocols.

• Familiarity with RTL (Verilog and/or VHDL) and embedded SoCs.
