This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Create, construct, automate, and manage secure, scalable Azure cloud infrastructure utilizing Infrastructure as Code.
• Incorporate governance, compliance, security, data quality, and auditability as foundational elements.
• Develop and sustain the platform engineering ecosystem, which includes CI/CD pipelines, self-service functionalities, and frameworks for resource provisioning.
• Empower data scientists and engineers to safely access compute, data, and ML resources without requiring extensive infrastructure knowledge.
• Establish and oversee platform operations, encompassing observability, monitoring, alerting, reliability practices, support models, and operational workflows.
• Assess, integrate, and enhance emerging technologies and services.
• Offer actionable insights and implement contemporary tools to improve platform capabilities, scalability, and user experience.
• Collaborate with platform leadership, engineering teams, and internal stakeholders to convert requirements into well-crafted solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers, contribute to the development of technical standards and documentation, and promote technical excellence, ongoing learning, and collaboration.
• Report to the Senior Director of Data and AI Platform within the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Office.
• Over 5 years of experience in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering, including practical work with data and/or AI/ML infrastructure.
• A degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• In-depth, hands-on knowledge of at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS or Azure.
• Familiarity with multi-cloud environments and their associated data and AI services.
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or Pulumi.
• Proficient in CI/CD tools, including GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
• Experience in containerization/orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Proficient in at least one programming language: Python, Go, or Bash.
• Solid understanding of security and networking principles for provisioning secure cloud resources.
• Proven experience managing production systems, including monitoring, observability, incident response, and reliability practices.
• Capability to set technical direction at platform scale, guide cross-team architectural and design decisions, establish standards, and mentor engineers.
• Willingness to travel up to 10%.
