Staff Backend Engineer – Trust & Control Safety Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design the future of HighLevel's Trust, Controls & Safety platform.

• Direct the technical strategy for a real-time platform that secures signups, SaaS transactions, user administration, and global communication use.

• Revamp and enhance data models, queries, and indexing techniques across MongoDB, Firestore, and Elasticsearch.

• Take charge of Elasticsearch reliability, encompassing ingestion, indexing, shard strategy, and query performance for billions of documents.

• Enhance replication health and ensure consistent query and index latency.

• Establish data flow and integration demarcations between storage, cache, and APIs.

• Develop observability across data pathways, including metrics, traces, slow query logs, replication lag, and cluster health dashboards.

• Implement unit, integration, and load testing standards.

• Propel RFCs, ADRs, and design reviews.

• Code, design systems, and troubleshoot production issues.

• Mentor engineers across teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders in Engineering, Product, Finance, Risk, Support, and channel teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in developing high-scale, mission-critical backend systems.

• Profound knowledge in concurrency, event-driven architectures, and consistency principles (CAS, atomic dry-runs, idempotency).

• Experience with systems where accuracy impacts financial outcomes, such as metering, ledgers, billing, reservations, or payment gateways.

• Technical leadership in guiding architecture for multi-team platforms from conception to deployment.

• Strong familiarity with relational and NoSQL data models, particularly complex transactional data.

• Working knowledge of streaming and analytical stores for time-windowed aggregation.

• Experience in designing policy- or rules-driven systems with versioning, safe rollout, and rollback capabilities.

• Understanding of monitoring, SLOs, and root-cause analysis within production settings.

• Acquainted with hallucination mitigation strategies.

• Proven track record of technical leadership without formal authority.

• Outstanding communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

• Practical, hands-on engineering mindset.

• Experience with Elasticsearch cluster management, multi-tenant indexing, or lifecycle policies (preferred).

• Familiarity with ClickHouse or other OLAP systems (preferred).

• Background in event-driven systems, data pipelines, or message brokers (preferred).

• Experience with rules engines, velocity checks, or adversarial defense systems (preferred).

• Practical experience with Go, Redis (Lua), ClickHouse, and Flink (preferred).

• Experience with Node.js and Go in production environments (preferred).
