Staff Attorney

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Offers legal support to low-income clients and client groups, encompassing advice, negotiation, litigation, and administrative advocacy.

• Reviews and oversees the work produced by Community Workers and Clerical support personnel.

• Engages in statewide impact initiatives, which may include institutional and group litigation or community economic development efforts.

• Fosters leadership in collaboration with community, client, and advocacy organizations on statewide impact matters.

• Cultivates specialized expertise in a relevant area of poverty law.

• Serves as a resource for colleagues by participating in at least one CRLA task force.

• Facilitates advocacy through partnerships with human services providers, nonprofit organizations, and advocacy groups.

• Engages in CRLA training programs, local office case reviews, staff meetings, and various other CRLA activities.

• Delivers community education on legal rights and prepares presentation materials.

• Collaborates with members of the private bar as needed.

• Maintains up-to-date time records in the CRLA case management system.

• Sustains a positive working relationship with office staff.

• Performs additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Licensed to practice law in the State of California or willing to sit for the next California Bar Exam.

• Demonstrated dedication to serving low-income clients.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Capable of meeting deadlines and managing multiple tasks while paying attention to detail.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain favorable relations with a diverse population.

• CRLA mandates that all employees be Fully Vaccinated, defined as having a CDC-approved COVID vaccination and one booster shot.

• Experience working with low-income families and communities is preferred.

• Background in a nonprofit legal services setting is preferred.

• Previous experience in legal services and additional language skills relevant to the position are preferred.

• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
