Staff AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Oversee and guide engineers within the Colombia team, taking responsibility for their technical development, code quality, and project delivery.

• Establish engineering benchmarks via code reviews, collaborative coding sessions, and reference implementations.

• Act as the primary escalation point, providing mentorship to engineers and assisting them in overcoming obstacles.

• Develop practices that enhance team performance on a quarterly basis.

• Lead architectural decisions related to agentic workflows, RAG pipelines, document processing, and production automation.

• Assess new AI models, frameworks, and techniques for inclusion in the production toolkit.

• Transform insights gained from client projects into reusable tools, templates, and documentation.

• Construct and implement comprehensive client AI systems from start to finish, encompassing LLM orchestration, evaluation, data pipelines, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.

• Make practical technical choices within the constraints of client timelines, legacy systems, inconsistent data, and business needs.

• Design dependable production systems that remain functional after project engagements conclude.

• Participate in client meetings to clarify system designs, trade-offs, and project progress.

• Convert vague business challenges into specific system designs and actionable delivery plans.

• Communicate risks, trade-offs, and scope realities to safeguard client outcomes and ensure team delivery.

• Report directly to the Head of Client Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering.

• At least 2 years of experience in developing production-level LLM-powered systems, including RAG, agents, or structured extraction.

• Proven track record of technical leadership along with experience in mentoring or managing engineers.

• Proficiency in Python at an expert level.

• Strong foundational knowledge across full-stack development.

• Experience with production cloud services such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, including deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.

• Comprehensive understanding of prompt and context engineering, evaluation, embeddings, vector search, and agent orchestration frameworks.

• History of managing ambiguous, high-stakes projects from inception to completion.

• Fluent in English with effective communication skills during client interactions.

• Flexibility to adapt within consulting environments across various client contexts, industries, and codebases.

• Located in Colombia with consistent availability during US business hours.
