This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Ensure precise and timely financial records and documentation are maintained.
• Carry out standard accounting procedures and record daily financial transactions.
• Assess and categorize transactions to the correct accounts, programs, departments, grants, and funding sources.
• Handle accounts payable transactions and assist with accounts receivable tasks.
• Manage employee expense claims and reimbursement procedures.
• Aid in credit card and purchasing activities.
• Prepare reconciliations for banks, credit cards, and other accounts.
• Examine and resolve discrepancies in reconciliations.
• Contribute to the monthly and year-end closing processes.
• Create balance sheet schedules and assist with accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other accounting entries.
• Assist in internal financial reports and analyses.
• Keep audit-ready records and documentation.
• Monitor and document financial activities and expenses related to grants.
• Facilitate grant reporting, audits, tax preparation, and compliance activities.
• Maintain Finance documentation, vendor, and banking records.
• Help in documenting and enhancing Finance processes, procedures, and internal controls.
• Collaborate with various departments across Lead For America and support organizational initiatives.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
• Over 3 years of experience in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with general ledger accounting and standard accounting processes.
• Proven experience in bank and/or account reconciliations.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion and professionalism.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities, capable of managing recurring deadlines and competing priorities.
• Proficiency in spreadsheets, especially Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
• Capability to learn and effectively utilize accounting, expense management, and other financial systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate across departments and clearly communicate financial processes to non-finance colleagues.
• Skill in identifying discrepancies, investigating issues, and ensuring resolution.
• Commitment to the mission of Lead For America and responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
• Experience in a nonprofit or 501(c)(3) organization.
• Background in grant-funded organizations and/or fund accounting.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting and restricted funding.
• Familiarity with supporting an annual financial audit.
• Experience with accounting platforms.
• Familiarity with an expense management system.
• Understanding of AmeriCorps, government grants, or other federally funded programs.
• Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting standards.
• Experience in documenting or enhancing accounting processes and internal controls.
