Specifications Writer – EV Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop, assess, and consistently enhance technical specification segments spanning Divisions 01 to 48.

• Work in partnership with design, governance, BIM, engineering, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and civil teams.

• Review design standards, pinpoint gaps in specification sections, and create new standards.

• Conduct research and evaluate products, finishes, and equipment for aspects such as durability, cost, sustainability, and compliance with codes.

• Generate checklists and review tools to assess external Architect of Record construction documents submissions.

• Manage and oversee the MasterSpec/SpecLink cloud database.

• Integrate construction and operational lessons learned into master specifications.

• Comply with relevant SOX control responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–8+ years of experience in writing technical specifications, architectural production, or delivering A/E contract documents (or comparable technical expertise).

• Capability to draft and revise architectural and engineering (MEP/Structural) specifications.

• Knowledge of CSI MasterFormat, UniFormat, and SectionFormat.

• Proficiency in BSD SpecLink or MasterSpec.

• Experience in assessing material data sheets, ASTM, ANSI, UL testing standards, as well as IBC, NFPA, ADA building codes.

• Excellent technical writing and editing abilities.

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent technical training/experience.

• Preferred: CCS, CDT, or CCCA credentials.

• Preferred: Active membership in SCIP or similar organizations.

• Preferred: Experience with large-scale rollout programs, industrial environments, R&D laboratories, EV charging infrastructure, or technical prototyping facilities.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Revit model metadata and BIM-to-Spec workflows.

• Preferred: Knowledge of LEED, WELL, and green material specifications.
