Solution Architect, AI – Cloud

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Continue developing production code while establishing direction, enhancing engineering practices, and mentoring engineers.

• Take direct ownership of the AI platform, which is a Python and FastAPI service on Amazon Bedrock, utilizing React, TypeScript, and AWS serverless infrastructure.

• Oversee the AI platform API, infrastructure, and user interface throughout development, QA, and production phases.

• Design and run Python and FastAPI services using Amazon Bedrock multimodal models for document extraction and investigative-service recommendations.

• Manage AWS infrastructure built with SAM and CloudFormation, encompassing API Gateway, Lambda, Aurora PostgreSQL Serverless, S3, SQS, DynamoDB, and ECS.

• Direct the React and TypeScript front end, incorporating single sign-on with the case-management platform.

• Ensure AI behavior is reliable, measurable, and cost-effective, with human reviews of every AI output.

• Architect the .NET 8 case-management back end and Vue 3 front end, which includes SQL Server, authentication, and Bedrock-enabled features.

• Gradually modernize the critical case-management platform without interrupting operations.

• Lead the video API, Angular front end, and Python GPU search service.

• Develop media workflows using S3, DynamoDB, CloudFront, MediaConvert, Step Functions, Lambda, and WebSockets, focusing on storage lifecycle and cost management.

• Establish reference patterns, coding standards, security baselines, observability, and CI/CD practices across Azure DevOps and GitHub.

• Conduct architecture reviews and document design notes and decision records.

• Manage cross-platform integration, including shared single sign-on, case and video linkage, and data flows.

• Mentor engineers and assist with hiring and onboarding processes.

• Collaborate with operations and leadership on priorities, estimates, risks, and trade-offs.

• Engage with development partners and report directly to the CTO.

• Achieve 90-day, six-month, and 12-month milestones for platform ownership, production stability, standards, architecture reviews, and cross-platform technical leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 12 years in professional software engineering, with technical ownership experience of production systems, rather than design-only roles.

• Proven player-coach experience: significant production delivery alongside technical leadership and mentoring.

• Extensive production experience with C# / .NET and ASP.NET Core, as well as Python and FastAPI or a similar framework.

• Strong expertise in TypeScript and familiarity with at least one of React, Vue, or Angular, with the capability to review work in the others.

• In-depth AWS knowledge, including ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, RDS or Aurora, CloudFront, SQS, Step Functions, IAM, and VPC networking.

• Experience with infrastructure as code, containerized deployments, and performance tuning in SQL Server and PostgreSQL.

• Knowledge of OIDC and OAuth2, JWT, cross-application single sign-on, least-privilege IAM, and secure file handling practices.

• Demonstrated success in modernizing a legacy system without disrupting business operations.

• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain trade-offs to non-engineers clearly.

• Preferred: Experience with production generative AI, ideally Amazon Bedrock, focusing on multimodal prompting, evaluation, document extraction, and cost control.

• Preferred: Familiarity with video or media pipelines, HLS, MediaConvert, CloudFront signed access, and S3 lifecycle or archival strategies.

• Preferred: Experience with computer vision or GPU workloads, such as InsightFace, ONNX Runtime, CUDA, or GPU containers on ECS.

• Preferred: Knowledge of Azure DevOps, GitHub workflows, NetSuite, Twilio, or Microsoft Graph.

• Preferred: Background in insurance, claims, investigations, or another regulated domain involving sensitive personal data and evidence.

• Preferred: Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools to enhance personal and team productivity.
