Software Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.

📋 Description

• Lead and cultivate a team of 6 to 10 engineers across 2 to 3 product squads.

• Conduct 1:1 meetings, provide constructive feedback, manage performance and promotion decisions, and create development plans.

• Oversee squad delivery, commitments, staffing, scope, and timelines.

• Allocate resources to ensure technical health and maintain platform quality.

• Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to source, interview, and hire engineers.

• Enhance engineering quality through involvement in code and design, technical reviews, and AI tooling.

• Work alongside Tech Leads and the Principal Engineer to assess technical feasibility, approaches, risks, and to remove obstacles.

• Advocate for modern, AI-enhanced engineering practices and promote continuous improvement.

• Maintain product and business context by fostering stakeholder relationships and participating in squad rituals.

• Manage dependencies across squads.

• Report directly to the CTO and communicate product outcomes to Product counterparts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience managing software engineers in a dedicated management position.

• Over 5 years of experience as a software engineer prior to transitioning into management, including senior-level responsibility for production systems.

• Proven track record of delivering and maintaining production web products.

• Technical expertise to effectively challenge designs and estimates.

• Proficient in React, Django, and GCP.

• Experience collaborating closely with Product and Design in an empowered-squad framework.

• Practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools.

• Fluent in English (working language).

• Authentic interest in sleep, health, and assisting individuals in enhancing their understanding and improvement of well-being.
