Engineering Manager – Admin Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and develop the Admin Experience engineering team.

• Define clear ownership, objectives, priorities, and feedback mechanisms.

• Collaborate with Product and cross-functional teams to influence the roadmap for user access, account hierarchies, account settings, and administration workflows.

• Direct the technical strategy for backend services, APIs, data models, and authorization protocols.

• Assist the team in making informed technical decisions.

• Balance feature implementation with production support, on-call duties, and investment in platform reliability and maintainability.

• Set standards for quality and operational readiness, including testing, safe deployment practices, observability, design documentation, runbooks, and support resources.

• Recruit, onboard, and nurture engineering talent.

• Collaborate with partner teams to ensure administration workflows are secure and consistent across NodeZero.

• Identify and retain top performers.

• Collaborate laterally with peer Management and Senior Leaders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Proven experience in leading software engineers who deliver production backend services or SaaS platform functionalities.

• Strong technical proficiency in backend architecture, APIs, data modeling, and production operations.

• Familiarity with identity, access control, multi-tenant systems, account hierarchies, or similar administrative capabilities.

• Experience in hiring, onboarding, coaching, and developing engineering professionals.

• Proven track record in guiding teams that develop backend services using Python, Go, Java, or TypeScript.

• Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases.

• Understanding of REST or GraphQL API design.

• Experience with cloud-based services.

• Familiarity with Docker and production engineering methodologies, including automated testing and observability.

• Experience with RBAC, SSO, audit logs, delegated administration, or customer-facing admin interfaces is an advantage.

• Familiarity with AWS, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, feature flags, Datadog, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry is a plus.

• Background in cybersecurity or a similar technically complex, customer-facing SaaS setting is a plus.

• Ability to establish clear priorities, manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, and guide a team through uncertainty and evolving requirements.

• Hands-on, quality-oriented approach to design reviews, production operations, and technical documentation.

• Willingness to travel up to 10%.
