Software Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Lead cross-functional teams consisting of 4–5 engineers.

• Report directly to the Head of Engineering.

• Take ownership of personnel development, which includes creating documented growth plans for each individual contributor.

• Ensure reliable delivery, manage project scope, identify risks early, and uphold commitments.

• Directly address team conflicts and manage underperformance through a defined process.

• Safeguard and nurture high-performing team members.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, Quality Engineering, Architecture, and Security teams.

• Provide technical guidance on system design and assess architectural risks while eliminating obstacles.

• Introduce and lead the implementation of AI tools and workflows for code reviews, documentation, sprint planning, and debugging.

• Cultivate the next generation of senior engineers and technical leads.

• Manage distributed communication, conduct remote 1:1s, and oversee distributed sprint ceremonies.

• Coordinate delivery from roadmap estimation through to release.

• Enhance team velocity, predictability, AI integration, and throughput without compromising quality.

• Monitor retention risks and engineer growth.

• Achieve year-one objectives, including growth plans within 60 days and a committed-scope cadence within 90 days.

• Extensive experience in AI integration; familiarity with Claude, Copilot, or similar AI workflows for engineering teams.

• Proven track record in developing career growth plans and managing underperformance through a structured approach.

• Previous experience leading fully remote teams as a standard operating model.

• Skilled in direct and effective conflict resolution.

• Ability to leverage velocity, retention risk, and individual contributor growth metrics to inform decision-making.

• Technical credibility in code reviews, architectural input, and debugging processes.

• Proficient in delegation and coaching; capable of preventing decision-making bottlenecks.

• Experience in developing senior engineers and tech leads as teams expand.

• Capability to lead distributed teams across different time zones and countries.
