Software Engineer – Laravel/PHP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malta.

📋 Description

• Design and sustain a high-performance backend platform utilizing PHP and Laravel

• Create scalable solutions through layered architecture

• Oversee the application interface, ensuring smooth integration across a vast service layer

• Implement secure and efficient routing with middleware-protected routes and FormRequests for data validation

• Maintain high code quality through thorough code reviews and tools like PHP-CS-Fixer and Pint

• Develop and uphold comprehensive test suites using PHPUnit, Mockery, and Faker

• Collaborate with frontend, product, and design teams to provide complete features

• Manage deployments and CI/CD pipelines in Bitbucket and AWS environments

• Enhance database performance and schema design within PostgreSQL/MySQL

• Diagnose and monitor applications with Telescope and Collision to ensure 24/7 reliability

• Take ownership of core backend features and create high-performance, scalable systems using Laravel and PHP

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with modern Laravel (11.x) and PHP 8.2+

• Profound understanding of layered architecture, Repository patterns, and Service Providers

• Expertise in PHPUnit and TDD practices, including Mockery and Sail

• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL/MySQL, particularly in query optimization and indexing strategies

• Familiarity with the modern PHP ecosystem, including Pint, PHP-CS-Fixer, Telescope, and Collision

• Significant experience with Bitbucket workflows and AWS deployments

• Capability to navigate and contribute to a large application surface with intricate dependencies

• Direct experience in integrating AI-driven features or LLM APIs into backend services

• Understanding of Docker-based development environments using Laravel Sail

• Preferred/bonus: experience in iGaming, Sportsbook, or Fintech sectors

• Preferred/bonus: knowledge of event-driven architectures such as Kafka or RabbitMQ

• Preferred/bonus: familiarity with observability tools and performance monitoring in high-traffic scenarios
