Software Development Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Guide, mentor, and enhance a Scrum-focused software development team

• Set priorities, expectations, accountability, and performance benchmarks

• Collaborate with the Lead Developer and technical team members

• Assess staffing, technical skills, and resource requirements

• Mentor team members to foster ownership, problem-solving abilities, and strategic thinking

• Facilitate sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives

• Streamline work intake, prioritization, estimation, capacity planning, and workflow management

• Shift the organization from reactive ticket handling to structured and measurable development

• Balance production support, technical debt, enhancements, and strategic development projects

• Establish and track development and delivery Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Evaluate sprint predictability, cycle time, throughput, defect trends, backlog health, and work aging

• Enhance delivery predictability, quality, productivity, and accountability

• Create delivery plans aligned with business priorities, technical complexity, and capacity

• Convey priorities, risks, dependencies, progress, and resource limitations to stakeholders

• Collaborate with Product, Project Management, QA, Business Analysis, Infrastructure, Security, and other stakeholders

• Convert organizational priorities into implementable development plans

• Ensure solutions meet business needs, architectural guidelines, security protocols, and quality standards

• Offer technical leadership within a predominantly Microsoft/.NET environment

• Support technical decision-making while developers maintain their roles as hands-on technical experts

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of progressive experience in software development, software engineering, or application delivery

• Significant experience leading software developers or multidisciplinary technology teams

• Proven experience managing or leading a Scrum-based software development team

• Demonstrated success in enhancing Agile/Scrum methodologies

• Experience in establishing and utilizing KPIs, delivery metrics, and performance indicators

• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), release management, quality assurance practices, and production support

• Experience in enhancing planning, prioritization, workflow management, and delivery predictability

• Ability to balance urgent production/support needs with long-term strategic development initiatives

• Excellent communication, coaching, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills

• Adaptable leadership style suited to a new organization’s requirements and culture

• Knowledge of Microsoft .NET / .NET Core, C#, T-SQL / SQL Server, Entity Framework, ASP.NET / .NET MVC, Angular and/or React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, Azure DevOps and/or Jira, DevOps, CI/CD, application security, and contemporary software engineering practices

• Preferred experience leading development teams in a Microsoft technology environment

• Preferred experience in modernizing software development processes or advancing Agile maturity

• Preferred experience managing remote, distributed, or cross-functional development teams

• Preferred experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar platforms

• Preferred experience in a regulated or operationally complex environment

• Preferred understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, application security, and modern engineering practices
