Software Development Engineer – Test

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Design and uphold automated UI and API tests utilizing Playwright and TypeScript across various application repositories and shared automation libraries.

• Establish and manage smoke, regression, and integration test coverage through Playwright tagging and test selection methodologies.

• Develop and sustain automated tests that function consistently within GitLab CI/CD pipelines during merge requests and scheduled executions.

• Work collaboratively with product owners, engineers, and QA analysts to outline testing strategies, clarify acceptance criteria, and facilitate shift-left testing.

• Analyze test failures, differentiate test issues from product defects, and document clear, reproducible defects with supporting evidence.

• Engage in code reviews for testing code and adhere to team standards regarding readability, maintainability, and reliability.

• Assist in enhancing the skills of manual QA colleagues through pairing, review feedback, and practical advice on Playwright and TypeScript automation techniques.

• Participate in performance and load testing efforts as necessary.

• Promote testability, automation best practices, and continuous improvement in alignment with DevOps and Agile delivery methodologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

• Over 4 years of experience in test automation or software development in testing.

• Strong expertise in TypeScript for test automation.

• Practical experience in creating and managing UI and API automated tests.

• Hands-on experience with CI/CD and incorporating automated tests into pipelines.

• In-depth knowledge of testing strategies for UI, API, integration, and regression.

• Experience with SQL or data validation across UI, API, and backend layers.

• Understanding of Agile methodologies and shift-left testing practices.

• Must be eligible to work in the USA for this position.

• Preferred: Experience in the insurance or financial services sector.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Docker and testing in lower environments.

• Preferred: Experience with JMeter or Gatling.

• Preferred: Knowledge of security testing practices.

• Preferred: Experience in mentoring, pairing with, or coaching colleagues on test automation.

• Preferred: Familiarity with contract testing or validating API functionality against OpenAPI or schema definitions.
