Integration/Test Automation Engineer – Journeyman

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, execute, maintain, and enhance automated software tests.

• Construct automated regression suites that encompass critical application functions and mission workflows.

• Create API tests to validate requests, responses, schemas, authentication, authorization, error handling, and business rules.

• Develop integration tests to verify interfaces, adapters, services, data exchanges, dependencies, and end-to-end processing.

• Create load and performance tests to assess throughput, response time, concurrency, resource utilization, stability, and failure behavior.

• Translate requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, interface specifications, data mappings, and technical designs into automated test coverage.

• Ensure traceability among automated tests, requirements, interfaces, defects, and release content.

• Design and maintain representative test data for positive, negative, boundary, exception, and high-volume scenarios.

• Incorporate automated tests into approved continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.

• Configure triggers, quality gates, result thresholds, notifications, and failure conditions.

• Maintain automated execution across development, integration, test, staging, and other authorized environments.

• Enhance test reliability by rectifying unstable, inconsistent, environment-dependent, or non-deterministic tests.

• Generate reproducible test results, logs, reports, metrics, and objective evidence.

• Document test configurations, dependencies, data conditions, execution procedures, expected results, and known limitations.

• Analyze failed tests and differentiate between product defects and issues related to test scripts, test data, environment, configuration, or dependencies.

• Create defect reports that include reproducible steps, expected and actual results, evidence, and affected requirements.

• Assist in defect triage, root-cause analysis, correction verification, and regression testing.

• Collaborate with API/integration engineers to validate service contracts, mappings, schemas, data transformations, and interoperability.

• Work with CI/CD engineers to enhance automated execution, artifact retention, test reporting, and pipeline reliability.

• Partner with cybersecurity personnel to validate security corrections and incorporate approved security testing.

• Support government demonstrations, user acceptance testing, release testing, and operational validation.

• Provide automation coverage, execution status, defect trends, performance results, and quality risks for release-readiness assessments.

• Engage in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily coordination, reviews, demonstrations, and retrospectives.

• Maintain test source code, scripts, configurations, data, and documentation in approved version-control repositories.

• Participate in peer reviews, code reviews, test reviews, and technical walkthroughs.

• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of automation frameworks, test data, CI/CD integration, performance testing, and quality practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active Secret clearance or higher.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, systems engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience as permitted by the applicable labor category.

• At least ten years of relevant experience in enterprise architecture, systems architecture, systems engineering, solution architecture, software architecture, or a related technical discipline.

• Experience in developing enterprise or system Concepts of Operations.

• Experience in conducting technical analyses and trade studies.

• Experience in breaking down mission or business needs into functional, component, interface, security, performance, and derived requirements.

• Experience in defining and documenting system and external-interface requirements.

• Experience in supporting complex systems integration across software, data, infrastructure, cloud, network, security, or external systems.

• Experience in designing scalable, extensible, resilient, and maintainable enterprise solutions.

• Experience in developing technical assumptions and inputs for rough-order-of-magnitude estimates.

• Experience in producing current-state, target-state, and transition architectures.

• Experience in creating or reviewing architecture diagrams, System Design Documents, Interface Control Documents, Interface Design Documents, requirements-traceability records, and architecture decision records.

• Experience in communicating architecture decisions, options, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Strong analytical, facilitation, technical writing, presentation, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to meet applicable labor-category requirements for equivalent professional experience, where allowed.

• Preferred but not mandatory: CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSEP, DoD 8570.01-M IASAE Level III/current DoD 8140-aligned certification, TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Professional Cloud Architect, CISSP, INCOSE certification, ITIL v4 Foundation or higher.

• Preferred experience with Department of Defense enterprise architecture or systems engineering programs, DoD Architecture Framework, Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework, ArchiMate, SysML, UML, Cameo, Sparx Enterprise Architect, Zero Trust, identity architecture, cloud architecture, DevSecOps, data architecture, API management, enterprise integration, RMF authorization, DISA STIG compliance, COOP, disaster recovery, mission resilience planning, and working with multiple Agile software development teams.
