This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.
• Establish the architecture and advancement of scalable, modular, and secure software platforms for T&D configuration systems.
• Formulate technical strategy and supervise the design of cloud-native platforms that support desktop, edge, and cloud deployments.
• Propel the integration of IEC 61850 engineering workflows and SCL-based ICD, SCD, and SSD into automated tooling ecosystems.
• Coordinate firmware, UI/UX, and power systems teams to ensure cohesive system design and integration.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems, and hardware architects to provide secure, compliant critical-infrastructure solutions.
• Promote the reuse of software components across product lines.
• Oversee configuration and commissioning tools for protection and control devices and their integration with SCADA/DMS/EMS and other utility systems.
• Perform software and architecture reviews to ensure compliance with IEC 61850, IEC 61968/70, CIM, and IEC 62351.
• Manage the complete software development lifecycle from requirements gathering through deployment and support.
• Partner with architects, systems engineers, and utility customers to provide customer-focused grid solutions.
• Keep abreast of emerging cloud-native, model-driven engineering, and AI/ML technologies, contributing to roadmaps, product strategy, and IP generation.
• Mentor software engineers and represent the organization in customer interactions, RFPs, and industry events.
• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in software engineering, including roles in technical leadership or software architecture.
• Demonstrated history of designing and delivering software solutions for T&D systems, energy automation, or industrial control sectors.
• Proficiency in utility standards and protocols: IEC 61850, CIM, IEC 61968/70, and IEC 62351.
• Strong capabilities in .NET, Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, UI frameworks, backend systems, and containerized/cloud deployments.
• Understanding of data modeling, API integration, network communications, and cybersecurity practices.
• Familiarity with configuration management systems, substation design tools, and SCADA/DMS/EMS integration.
• Excellent leadership and communication abilities.
• Experience working in a matrixed global organization and managing distributed engineering teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
• Thought leadership demonstrated through publications, standards participation, or conference speaking.
• Willingness to travel for essential customer engagements, internal collaboration, or industry events.
