Project Engineer

📋 Description

• Oversee the technical implementation of utility-scale battery storage initiatives from the design phase through to construction and commissioning.

• Serve as the technical liaison for designated projects, managing requests and escalating complex matters as necessary.

• Manage the assigned technical scope, engineering timelines, project stakeholders, and deliverables.

• Create and evaluate technical specifications.

• Assist with vendor assessments, supplier qualification, testing, and commissioning processes.

• Facilitate procurement and tendering activities by drafting technical requirements, coordinating supplier information, maintaining technical Q&A logs, and assessing EPC bidder proposals.

• Coordinate with external engineering consultants and support technical coordination and design-review meetings.

• Review and manage engineering designs and technical documentation from suppliers, consultants, and contractors.

• Identify discrepancies and aid in the prompt resolution of comments.

• Conduct site inspections to ensure construction and installation activities comply with approved designs, drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

• Offer technical assistance during construction and commissioning phases.

• Help resolve design, installation, and project execution challenges.

• Review Factory Acceptance Test procedures and reports to ensure they meet project requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Educational qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and pertinent technical experience.

• Minimum of two years of experience in project engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical role.

• Basic understanding of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems.

• Familiarity with electrical installation design, cable sizing, short-circuit and load-flow analysis, protective-device coordination, and arc-flash studies.

• Capability to interpret and evaluate engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project documentation.

• General knowledge of grid-interconnection requirements and relevant renewable energy and energy storage codes and standards, including UL, NFPA, IEEE, NETA, NERC, and applicable regional market regulations.

• Willingness to travel up to 25% within Canada and the United States, including occasional multi-day site visits.

• Experience with utility-scale battery energy storage systems, lithium-ion battery technology, medium-voltage substations, or renewable energy projects is considered a plus.

• Familiarity with balance-of-plant systems, including UPS systems, fire detection and suppression, HVAC, and auxiliary electrical systems, is an advantage.
