Software Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +7 more states.

📋 Description

• Establish the architectural vision and key milestones for teams developing highly scalable Java and web-based applications.

• Spearhead the adoption of AI-driven development methodologies, including AI-DLC and AI coding agents like Claude Code.

• Set standards for the review, testing, and validation of AI-generated code and design artifacts.

• Assess and design solutions that integrate large language models (LLMs) into products and internal processes.

• Advance the enterprise architectural stack.

• Review and approve technical designs while supporting adherence to development standards.

• Engage in the full Agile software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to testing and deployment.

• Define performance requirements, establish targets, and troubleshoot production bottlenecks related to JVM, application servers, and database performance.

• Develop and refine unit testing, code review, build, and deployment methodologies.

• Investigate new technologies and create proofs of concept.

• Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to identify long-term system needs and requirements.

• Provide technical support and assist clients with their implementation requirements and plans.

• Mentor and coach developers, testers, and product managers.

• Ensure the efficiency and implementation of the MEDHOST Quality Management System while meeting applicable regulatory standards.

• Execute relevant QMS procedures and fulfill other duties as required by the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related Engineering field.

• 4 years of development experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related Engineering field with 6 years of development experience, emphasizing hands-on Java expertise.

• Extensive experience in technical leadership and maturity.

• Practical experience applying the AI-Driven Development Life Cycle (AI-DLC) or similar AI-native development methodologies in production software.

• Proficient knowledge of large language models (LLMs), including prompt and context engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and the integration of LLM APIs into applications.

• Experience utilizing Claude Code or similar AI coding agents in daily development, including configuring project context and directing agents through structured, reviewable workflows.

• Proven experience in designing and implementing a highly available environment, along with understanding the subtleties of a clustered solution.

• Background in designing and executing infrastructure components (server, middleware, and networking) for web-based applications.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, capable of engaging with all levels of the organization.

• Strong grasp of database concepts including design, implementation, support, and performance optimization.

• Familiarity with cloud-based systems.

• Experience with Java (JDK 17+), Spring Framework/Spring Boot, Tomcat, RHEL, Angular, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, DB2 on IBM i, SQL, IntelliJ IDEA, Maven or Gradle, and JUnit is advantageous.

• Knowledge of DB2 / AS/400 / Power Systems is a plus.

• Familiarity with healthcare standards such as FHIR, HL7, SNOMED, or Medi-Span is a plus.
