Principal Engineer – Monetization Engineering

📋 Description

• Define and articulate the long-term architecture and technical strategy for Fulfillment, encompassing target state, guiding principles, priorities, and migration sequencing.

• Evaluate the existing platform and mitigate risks related to scale, reliability, performance, data accuracy, operability, and maintainability.

• Steer architectural choices regarding entitlements, provisioning, seat management, usage visibility, and cost management.

• Set service boundaries, determine data ownership, establish contracts, and outline integration patterns across Fulfillment, Monetization, billing, Salesforce, and product services.

• Lead a progressive modernization initiative while consistently delivering value to customers and the business.

• Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Product Management, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate architectural vision into actionable roadmaps and tangible results.

• Engage hands-on with prototypes, critical implementations, migrations, performance enhancements, reliability initiatives, and incident learning.

• Advocate for the practical adoption of AI across Fulfillment, focusing on agentic coding and AI-assisted engineering workflows.

• Mentor and guide Senior and Staff Engineers, enhancing the quality of technical decision-making.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience at the Staff, Principal, or similar technical leadership level.

• Direct experience in building, operating, or modernizing Fulfillment systems, such as entitlements, licensing, provisioning, subscription lifecycle, seat management, usage metering, usage billing, or cost controls.

• Proven track record of establishing technical direction across multiple teams and transforming architecture into reliable, operational systems.

• Extensive experience with distributed systems, focusing on scalability, availability, performance, observability, data integrity, and failure-mode analysis.

• Proficiency in one or more of Ruby, Go, and Python, with the capability to navigate both Backend and Frontend in a polyglot environment.

• Practical experience leveraging artificial intelligence in software engineering, including agentic coding or AI-assisted development workflows.

• Demonstrated success in modernizing mature or degraded platforms without relying on a high-risk “big bang” rewrite.

• Experience in designing systems that span multiple deployment models, such as software as a service, self-managed, dedicated, or disconnected environments.

• Strong product and business acumen, linking technical investments to customer experience, revenue, operational efficiency, risk mitigation, and time to market.

• Exceptional written communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders across teams without formal authority.
