Site Reliability Engineer – Observability, Internal Tools

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Assume responsibility for smartclip’s internal infrastructure.

• Enhance platform capabilities for engineers by integrating observability and automation.

• Lead the advancement of Prometheus, Grafana, and Forgejo, transforming them into a robust monitoring ecosystem.

• Create significant, actionable alerts.

• Establish SLOs to foster proactive system stability.

• Assess and adopt modern open-source alternatives to proprietary software.

• Choose technologies for the stack and assist in shaping their integration.

• Incorporate security engineering practices into development and delivery workflows.

• Detect vulnerabilities prior to penetration testing.

• Manage Linux systems and distributed tools while maintaining a stable production environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in implementing metrics, logs, and traces.

• Capability to extract concrete, actionable insights from large datasets and signals.

• Expertise with Linux systems and distributed tools.

• Comprehension of how distributed systems communicate and fail.

• Background in infrastructure automation via code.

• A mindset of ownership with a “you build it, you run it” philosophy.

• Practical experience with GCP or AWS in production and at scale (preferred).

• Active participation in the open-source community or a portfolio of self-hosted projects (preferred).

• Flexibility to travel occasionally to Berlin for workshops, team sessions, and collaboration, as well as for team events in Germany.

• A portfolio, side project, or demo repository that showcases your technical approach is advantageous.
