Site Reliability Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop, maintain, and manage the infrastructure platform that supports Ookla services

• Oversee a distributed global network of cloud instances, containerized workflows, serverless applications, Linux servers, and related infrastructure

• Maintain transactional database systems utilizing MySQL, PostgreSQL, RDS, and Aurora

• Provide support for NoSQL data storage solutions like DynamoDB and MongoDB

• Construct and maintain data stream processing with Kinesis or Kafka

• Support data engineering initiatives and big data toolchains such as Spark

• Manage production systems in a 24x7x365 operational environment, including on-call duties

• Offer architectural and operational assistance to software engineers

• Advise on operational best practices for software and data engineering teams

• Implement and manage security protocols, including vulnerability remediation, patch management, IDS/IPS, and penetration testing

• Facilitate development-to-production code deployment pipelines

• Provide tools and guidance for monitoring and observability best practices

• Assist development teams with troubleshooting

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in systems/platform engineering

• Proven experience in building globally-distributed systems

• Strong grasp of security best practices

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation

• Proficiency in Git and GitHub for source code configuration management

• Familiarity with configuration management systems like Chef or Ansible

• Experience with container-based architectures including Docker and Kubernetes

• Proficient in one or more high-level programming languages, such as TypeScript, Go, Python, PHP, Ruby, or Java

• Experience with AWS and other cloud infrastructure platforms

• Comfortable writing SQL queries and analyzing query performance

• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies in a dynamic environment

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities

• Strong time management skills and a self-motivated work ethic
