This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.
• Develop and oversee captivating, SEO-friendly copy and content that educates, motivates, and converts local audiences.
• Lead content requirements for landing pages and blog posts, aiding in the formulation of a long-term content strategy by managing an up-to-date editorial calendar and publishing schedule.
• Craft and refine SEO-optimized, engaging content on diverse design subjects that align with the SEO team's content strategy and resonate with local audiences.
• Upload and publish content that adheres to the latest SEO best practices and aligns with our local tone of voice, as defined by our language managers.
• Routinely monitor and enhance landing pages to sustain freshness, increase content credibility, and boost user engagement.
• Uphold a high standard of quality and consistency in accordance with Canva's brand guidelines.
• Collaborate closely with the broader Japan SEO team to ensure alignment on goals, priorities, and SEO best practices that promote growth.
• Assist in broader SEO initiatives such as keyword research, competitor analysis, and collaboration with Outreach Specialists for content creation.
• Work alongside the country SEO team and broader marketing/community teams to ensure that the content strategy reflects local market dynamics and user requirements.
• Provide local market insights and user feedback that shape content priorities and identify opportunities.
• Build cross-functional relationships to comprehend how your content efforts support larger country initiatives.
• Stay informed about emerging search and discovery trends in your market, including how users find information through AI-powered platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews, etc.).
• Recognize where traditional SEO adds value compared to new channels and methods that may be more effective in your region.
• Be receptive to experimenting with new content formats and optimization strategies as the search landscape shifts.
• Share insights and findings regarding how users in your market discover content, contributing to our global understanding of emerging trends.
• Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese along with business-level English skills.
• Demonstrated experience in SEO content writing and/or content marketing, with a portfolio showcasing successful results (minimum of 3 years of SEO experience required).
• Strong copywriting and editing abilities, including experience providing constructive feedback to fellow writers.
• Experience in editorial planning and content publishing within a CMS (content management system).
• Solid grasp of SEO fundamentals: keyword optimization, content structure, user intent, and how content integrates into a broader SEO strategy.
• Familiarity with SEO tools like Ahrefs, Semrush, or similar platforms is a plus!
• Experience utilizing web analytics tools to understand user engagement with content and measure content effectiveness.
• High attention to detail with the ability to closely adhere to detailed written instructions and maintain quality standards.
• Strong time management skills: Ability to self-manage capacity, adhere to project deadlines, and juggle multiple priorities.
• Experience in creating landing page assets.
• In-depth understanding of local cultural and linguistic nuances that extend beyond language fluency—you know what resonates with audiences in your market.
• Appreciation for local writing trends and content preferences, ensuring content feels native rather than translated.
• Ability to identify market-specific opportunities that may not be evident from a global perspective.
• Excellent communication skills: Clear, proactive, and transparent in both written and verbal interactions.
• Collaborative mindset: You easily cultivate relationships, work effectively across teams, and contribute positively to team culture.
• Curiosity about emerging channels: You actively engage with how discovery is evolving—including AI search, LLMs, social search, and new platforms—and are eager to learn.
• Comfort with ambiguity: You can experiment with new approaches (like content formatting for AI-generated answers) even as best practices are still being established.
• Data-driven adaptability: You can objectively evaluate what is working and modify your approach based on performance and market signals.
• Familiarity with YouTube SEO and video content discoverability, considering YouTube's significant presence in the Japanese search landscape.
• Previous experience in SEO strategy development and planning is advantageous.
