Senior/Lead NLP, ML Researcher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Norway.

📋 Description

• Direct the research initiatives at Iris.ai focusing on LLM evaluation and interpretability.

• Develop innovative evaluation techniques, metrics, and experimental frameworks.

• Conduct thorough experiments, benchmarking, and ablation studies.

• Convert research findings into prototypes and production-ready capabilities.

• Offer scientific support to both researchers and engineers.

• Collaborate effectively with product and engineering teams.

• Publish research work and actively participate in the AI research community.

• Lead and co-author research grant proposals at both EU and national levels.

• Write and disseminate research articles.

• Mentor interns and supervise master's thesis students.

• Investigate LLM grounding, faithfulness, task adherence, mechanistic interpretation, model interpretability, uncertainty and confidence, evaluation frameworks, agentic reasoning and control, inference-time steering, and multilingual NLP.


⛳️ Requirements

• PhD in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

• Extensive hands-on experience with R&D grants and proposal crafting (e.g., Horizon Europe, EIC, national or international research funding).

• Over 5 years of industry or applied research experience.

• Strong foundation in NLP (transformers, semantic search, RAG).

• Practical experience with LLMs and their assessment.

• Proficient software engineering skills and experience with Python.

• Published works in ML/NLP conferences or journals.

• Ability to work within European time zones.

• Strong object-oriented programming practices in Python.

• Familiarity with PyTorch, Transformers, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, OpenAI, custom and fine-tuned models, RAG pipelines, multi-agent frameworks, evaluation tools, AWS, Docker, HPC, Git, CI/CD, and reproducible research workflows.
