Applied AI Research Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Investigate innovative AI technologies and engineering methodologies through practical experimentation and rapid prototyping.

• Develop hypotheses, design experiments, assess results against established criteria, and translate findings into actionable engineering recommendations.

• Play a key role in defining and continuously enhancing the organization-wide AI software development lifecycle (SDLC).

• Conduct critical evaluations of AI technologies, model outputs, and industry trends.

• Establish evaluation criteria and pinpoint potential failure modes prior to endorsing broader implementation.

• Generate comprehensive documentation, reusable resources, and guidance for delivery teams and leadership.

• Transition seamlessly between research, prototyping, engineering, architectural discussions, consulting, and organizational empowerment.

• Work collaboratively with the AI rollout team, maintaining a continuous feedback loop that incorporates insights and challenges from actual project implementations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Solid foundation in software engineering and architecture principles: APIs, distributed systems, testing, delivery practices, and maintainability, applicable across various languages and technology stacks.

• Practical experience working with AI agents and agentic workflows.

• Familiarity with LLM APIs and model integration.

• Hands-on experience in evaluating and testing AI systems.

• Understanding of security, privacy, and responsible AI practices.

• Proficient in CI/CD and software delivery methodologies.

• Knowledgeable in observability and monitoring techniques.

• Strong research and development mindset with the capability to create order from uncertainty.

• Excellent critical thinking and systems thinking skills.

• Proficient in both written and verbal communication.

• A pragmatic approach that balances experimentation with real-world production considerations.

• Experience in developing LLM-based applications.

• Familiar with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).

• Knowledge of tool/function calling and protocols like MCP.

• Expertise in API design and integration.

• Experience in data pipelines and data management.

• Knowledgeable in containers and cloud-native development.

• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, .NET, or similar languages.
