Senior UX Designer, Researcher, Accessibility Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with the Lead UX/Accessibility Architect to enhance digital standards across enterprise initiatives.

• Take charge of user testing and UI optimization efforts.

• Support the modernization pipeline for the Iowa Department of Education.

• Advance project phases with strict milestones while providing cross-agency support for the Department of Natural Resources and other state projects.

• Design, plan, and conduct formal user experience research to evaluate complex workflows.

• Facilitate hands-on user testing sessions and manage usability labs to identify and address workflow friction.

• Audit initial layouts and interfaces against usability best practices and design standards.

• Convert district data reporting and environmental workflows into user-friendly journeys and behavioral personas.

• Organize data-intensive reporting categories through card sorting methods.

• Incorporate digital accessibility into design systems and user research in accordance with WCAG standards.

• Collaborate with the Lead UX/Accessibility Architect on multi-agency initiatives, chatbot interfaces, and state projects.

• Work with agency teams, product owners, and technical stakeholders to share design findings and research data.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8 years of experience in moderating user testing sessions, executing usability labs, performing heuristic evaluations, mapping user journeys, and managing information architecture.

• 8 years of practical expertise in implementing WCAG 2.2 Level AA requirements, focus management, keyboard navigation mechanics, and color contrast principles within visual layouts.

• 8 years of experience in articulating user research insights, interface design choices, and usability standards to technical team members, developers, and agency stakeholders.

• 8 years of front-end engineering experience writing semantic HTML5 and modern, responsive CSS/SASS.

• 8 years of experience in integrating interface designs into Angular or MVC .NET framework environments.

• 8 years of experience utilizing or extending the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS).

• 8 years of experience in user experience research, usability testing, usability labs, heuristic evaluation, user journey mapping, and persona development.

• 8 years of experience with information architecture, card sorting, wireframing, interactive prototyping, UX design, WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliance, and focus management.

• 8 years of experience with keyboard navigation mechanics, color contrast requirements, accessibility auditing, technical communication, and design system usage.

• 8 years of experience in implementing modern data architectures within an organization.

• 8 years of experience in a highly regulated industry conducting statistical analysis and reporting.
