This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Oversee and assess intricate federal and state income tax returns for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individual clients, including the final review and signing authority.
• Evaluate tax projections and individual, business/pass-through, or fiduciary tax data to uncover planning opportunities, technical challenges, and issues that need escalation.
• Deliver sophisticated tax planning advice for high-net-worth individuals, executives, business owners, trustees, and associated entities.
• Work in tandem with tax, financial planning, legal, investment, and insurance experts to incorporate tax strategies into financial, estate, business succession, and wealth management recommendations.
• Assess client tax and financial situations to devise actionable recommendations.
• Articulate planning concepts, compliance considerations, and strategic advice to advisors and clients.
• Enhance quality control, workflow discipline, and risk management for internal tax preparation and planning services.
• Cultivate relationships across Northwestern Mutual to navigate complex client situations and facilitate tax compliance and advisory service provision.
• Guide, review, and nurture tax professionals.
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, taxation, or a related discipline is mandatory.
• An active CPA license is required.
• Generally requires 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in tax.
• Advanced experience in high-net-worth individual income tax planning and compliance.
• Substantial experience with business/pass-through taxation or fiduciary/trust taxation.
• Comprehensive understanding of estate planning, business owner planning, financial planning, investments, and insurance concepts.
• Experience in consulting with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients, including those with around $20 million or more in net worth.
• Experience collaborating with financial advisors or other professional advisors.
• Strong client-focused written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent tax research capabilities, including the application of federal and state tax law to complex client scenarios and planning situations.
• Experience in a dynamic environment and helping to develop or enhance processes is preferred.
• Familiarity with CCH Axcess Tax software is preferred.
• Ability to mentor, review, and develop tax professionals.
• A collaborative team player with sound professional judgment, keen attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and risk management.
• Comfortable assessing, testing, and integrating AI technologies.
• An advanced degree or additional credentials such as MST, JD, or LL.M. is preferred but not mandatory.
