
Senior Software Engineer – Security, Distributed Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, develop, and maintain highly reliable backend services and distributed systems.
• Create core components for RapidFort’s cybersecurity and software supply chain security platform.
• Construct systems for processing, analyzing, and managing extensive volumes of security, vulnerability, package, container, and runtime data.
• Design scalable APIs, services, data pipelines, and internal platform components.
• Develop software that operates across Linux, containerized environments, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms.
• Tackle complex challenges related to concurrency, performance, scalability, reliability, and distributed processing.
• Manage container images, software packages, dependencies, vulnerabilities, SBOMs, and other software supply chain data.
• Enhance the performance and efficiency of large-scale security analysis and remediation workflows.
• Diagnose intricate issues across applications, operating systems, containers, networks, and distributed services.
• Design systems that incorporate security, reliability, observability, and fault tolerance.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested production code.
• Engage in architecture and technical design discussions.
• Review code and establish robust engineering practices.
• Collaborate with security researchers, product managers, and engineers to transform security challenges into scalable product capabilities.
• Take ownership of projects from technical design through to production deployment.
• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in building backend platforms or distributed systems.
• Proficient programming experience in Python, Go, C++, Java, or similar backend/system-level languages.
• In-depth understanding of distributed systems and production backend architecture.
• Strong knowledge of Linux systems and their internals.
• Experience in developing APIs, backend services, microservices, or large-scale data-processing systems.
• Practical experience with Docker, containers, and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with designing software for cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Comprehensive understanding of networking, processes, filesystems, memory, CPU utilization, and system performance.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and large-scale data systems.
• Knowledge of concurrency, asynchronous processing, queues, caching, and distributed workloads.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities across multiple layers of a technology stack.
• Capacity to independently manage complex engineering challenges from design to implementation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
• Security-related experience is highly beneficial in areas such as software supply chain security, application or cloud security, vulnerability management, container security, Kubernetes security, software composition analysis, SBOMs, CVEs and vulnerability intelligence, Linux security, DevSecOps, package management and software build systems, as well as runtime security or workload analysis.
• Preferred qualifications include experience in building security products or developer/security infrastructure; managing large software or vulnerability datasets; working with container images, registries, layers, packages, and dependencies; understanding Kubernetes internals and container runtimes; knowledge of Linux package ecosystems such as RPM, DEB, or APK; proficiency in CI/CD systems and modern software build pipelines; performance profiling and optimization; familiarity with open-source security tooling and vulnerability databases; experience with highly available systems; and a background in high-growth cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, or enterprise software companies.
