Senior Software Engineer, Search

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and modify the technical strategy for search functionalities within Vannevar’s products.

• Utilize full-text search, vector databases, large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), and relevance algorithms.

• Enhance search speed and relevance.

• Work alongside product engineers, designers, and mission strategists to convert user requirements into data-driven search innovations.

• Investigate and implement emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in search and information retrieval.

• Elevate index quality, freshness, and retrieval efficiency.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in backend software development, including more than 3 years in search, information retrieval, or similar domains.

• A strong enthusiasm for designing, developing, and deploying reliable, scalable, and high-performing systems.

• Proficiency in information retrieval, natural language processing, and machine learning.

• In-depth knowledge of indexing, ranking, query parsing, tokenization, and vector search methodologies.

• Practical experience with at least one major search engine, such as Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.

• Understanding of search evaluation frameworks, including precision, recall, and normalized discounted cumulative gain (NDCG).

• Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and communication abilities.

• U.S. Person status is necessary for access to U.S.-only data systems.
