
Senior Software Engineer β Layer1, C++

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.
β’ Create software to manage physical-layer connections from 1GBASE-T connectors to 1.6T long-reach optics.
β’ Develop instrumentation and telemetry tools for monitoring and diagnosing the health of physical links.
β’ Establish standards for new media in collaboration with the Optics teams and drive them to market.
β’ Enhance features, troubleshoot issues, and optimize code for both scalability and performance.
β’ Take ownership of projects from conception through to deployment and customer engagement.
β’ Collaborate with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to develop Layer1 functionalities.
β’ Architect, design, and oversee feature development.
β’ Create and maintain features using programming languages such as C, C++, and Python.
β’ Review and contribute to functional and design documentation.
β’ Develop automated tests and testing frameworks.
β’ Partner with hardware and manufacturing teams to launch Phys and transceivers into the market.
β’ Design software control interfaces for Layer1 components in conjunction with hardware engineers.
β’ Offer technical leadership across various features, projects, and tools.
β’ Analyze and troubleshoot customer network and system-testing issues.
β’ Mentor junior and new engineers.
β’ Work closely with Customer Support Engineers, customers, and System Test Engineers.
β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 8 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years, or a Ph.D. with 3 years, or equivalent professional experience.
β’ Proficient in C or C++ and Python.
β’ Familiarity with UNIX or Linux operating systems.
β’ Practical understanding of software engineering principles.
β’ Strong capabilities in problem-solving and software troubleshooting.
β’ Capability to independently design solutions and implement features.
β’ Ability to collaborate effectively within small teams.
β’ Knowledge of digital communication technologies, such as modulation and signal encoding schemes, is advantageous.
β’ Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus.
β’ Experience with low-level hardware components is beneficial.
