This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +4 more states.
• Design, develop, and implement scalable backend services and APIs utilizing Golang within AWS environments.
• Create microservices by applying domain-driven design and contemporary architectural patterns, including hexagonal architecture.
• Work collaboratively with frontend engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to establish service contracts and platform capabilities.
• Guide and mentor engineers while promoting collaboration among distributed engineering teams.
• Assess and incorporate SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS solutions into existing systems.
• Engage in architecture reviews, Request for Comments (RFCs), and proof-of-concept projects.
• Develop highly scalable, resilient, and observable distributed systems.
• Design and execute event-driven architectures and streaming solutions utilizing Kafka and related messaging technologies.
• Integrate with workflow orchestration and durable execution frameworks like Camunda and Temporal.
• Architect and manage data systems encompassing relational, graph, document, search, and OLAP databases.
• Construct and maintain cloud-native systems using AWS services, including Lambda, ECS, SQS, API Gateway, RDS, and S3.
• Implement observability practices through logging, monitoring, and distributed tracing using Datadog.
• Set backend engineering standards, best practices, and conventions for system design.
• Plan, estimate, and deliver engineering tasks while addressing risks and resolving obstacles.
• Communicate progress and system capabilities effectively to stakeholders and leadership.
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong emphasis on backend systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Extensive hands-on experience in developing backend services using Golang.
• Significant experience in designing and deploying systems within AWS cloud environments.
• Proven experience in building and managing distributed systems, APIs, and microservices architectures.
• Familiarity with domain-driven design and modern architectural paradigms.
• Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of distributed Postgres-compatible databases such as CockroachDB.
• Experience integrating workflow orchestration platforms like Camunda or Temporal.
• Proficiency in implementing observability, monitoring, and performance optimization tools such as Datadog.
• Experience in collaborating within cross-functional teams and mentoring engineers.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
• An entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for developing scalable systems.
• Eligibility for employment with American Express in the United States is required; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship.
• Experience in integrating AI/ML models into backend systems is a plus.
