Senior Software Engineer, Go

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain the fundamental components of Workato's Recipe runtime, focusing on recipe execution, DSL, event pulling, webhook processing, and job execution.

• Design and create distributed backend systems in Go, with a keen emphasis on performance and memory behavior.

• Collaborate on runtime-level components that operate under high concurrency and throughput.

• Utilize knowledge of Go internals, such as the scheduler, memory model, and garbage collection, to enhance efficiency.

• Design and refine concurrent workflows using goroutines, channels, synchronization primitives, and context propagation.

• Optimize slices, memory allocations, and data structures for performance-critical areas.

• Enhance the execution of custom third-party code through isolation, performance improvements, and feature extensions.

• Modernize runtime components to achieve modularity, structured architecture, and observability.

• Improve trigger configuration and execution across both webhooks and polling mechanisms.

• Integrate and optimize databases and services including Postgres, S3, DynamoDB, Kafka, and ClickHouse.

• Identify bottlenecks, race conditions, deadlocks, and performance issues in distributed systems.

• Take ownership of initiatives from the design phase through to rollout and production support.

• Conduct code reviews that emphasize correctness, concurrency safety, and performance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in developing scalable distributed backend applications.

• Strong understanding of databases, load balancers, application servers, message brokers, caching, and monitoring systems.

• Good grasp of network protocols and stacks.

• Familiarity with traditional databases as well as modern NoSQL technologies.

• Knowledge of fundamental data structures and algorithms.

• Experience in multiple programming languages; the primary codebase is Ruby, with a transition towards Go and Rust.

• Exceptional debugging, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, accompanied by 7+ years of industry experience.

• Willingness to collaborate remotely with teams situated across various global locations and time zones.

• Nice-to-have: expertise in network programming, application/data security, physical database design, Docker and isolation technologies, public cloud infrastructure, related fields, data-processing pipelines, and scalable third-party REST APIs.
