Senior Software Engineer – Chat & Agent Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the technical design and execution of projects within the chat team.

• Establish engineering priorities, standards, and daily technical decisions.

• Convert product requirements into straightforward, maintainable system designs.

• Write production-level Python code and stay engaged in the implementation process.

• Create abstractions that minimize complexity without unnecessary engineering.

• Evaluate pull requests for accuracy, maintainability, test coverage, and quality of design.

• Provide guidance to junior developers through design advice, code reviews, and mentoring.

• Troubleshoot production issues across application code, agent workflows, prompts, models, data, and infrastructure.

• Enhance the reliability, observability, latency, and cost-effectiveness of chat systems.

• Optimize the use of coding agents throughout the development lifecycle.

• Mentor engineers in planning, implementation, testing, debugging, and code-review processes utilizing coding agents.

• Lead initiatives aimed at increasing the team's speed and AI-centric capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Approximately 4–5 years of experience in professional software engineering.

• Strong expertise in Python, focusing on idiomatic, typed, testable, and maintainable production code.

• Solid programming fundamentals coupled with sound engineering judgment.

• Experience in designing, delivering, and operating production systems.

• Ability to create meaningful abstractions while ensuring systems remain simple and comprehensible.

• In-depth knowledge of API design, data modeling, concurrency, error handling, and observability.

• Proficient in writing effective automated tests using tools like pytest.

• Capable of reviewing code beyond superficial concerns and articulating suggested modifications.

• Experience in mentoring junior developers.

• Comfortable taking ownership and driving improvements within the team.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Hands-on experience in developing LLM or agent-based applications is essential.

• Familiarity with tool-calling or multi-step workflows using LangGraph or similar agent frameworks.

• Experience in designing conversation state, context management, and execution flows.

• Knowledge of model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, and grounding.

• Experience supporting streaming responses and asynchronous execution.

• Proficient in evaluating prompts, models, and overall agent behavior.

• Experience with Langfuse, LangSmith, or comparable observability platforms.

• Skilled in managing reliability, latency, and cost for production LLM systems.

• Advanced user experience with agentic coding workflows across exploration, planning, implementation, testing, debugging, and review.

• Ability to provide coding agents with context, constraints, and verification steps.

• Capable of critically assessing generated code for correctness, security, maintainability, and complexity.

• Ability to design development workflows that ensure accountability for the resulting code.

• Skilled at identifying workflows that can be enhanced through agents and automation.

• Ability to instruct junior developers on effective utilization of coding agents.
