This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Design, implement, and manage microservices that provide action and variant metadata.
• Create context-aware services for policy and eligibility evaluation.
• Develop versioned, read-optimized APIs to ensure high-performance runtime access.
• Guarantee high availability, low latency, horizontal scalability, and backward compatibility.
• Employ best practices in API design, schema evolution, service isolation, and secure integration.
• Design, deploy, and maintain robust database schemas for catalogs, versioning, lifecycle management, effective dating, rule bindings, and metadata relationships.
• Choose and operate relational, document, and key-value data storage solutions.
• Carry out schema migration, indexing, query optimization, and ensure data integrity, consistency, reliability, auditability, and traceability.
• Integrate and manage enterprise rules engines for eligibility, constraints, policies, suppressions, cooldowns, exclusions, and allow/deny logic.
• Ensure that rule execution is deterministic, versioned, stateless, and free from unintended side effects.
• Utilize AI-powered tools to generate and refactor schemas and service logic, streamline rule authoring, detect conflicting rules, produce tests, and explore edge scenarios.
• Create automated tests for migrations, schema changes, service contracts, API compatibility, rule behavior, precedence, and edge cases.
• Construct observable and resilient platforms featuring structured logging, metrics, alerting, error handling, fallbacks, and incident management.
• Facilitate audit and compliance needs through traceable and reproducible system behavior.
• Collaborate with platform, data, and machine learning teams.
• Engage in architecture and design reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the establishment of technical standards and best practices.
• At least 6 years of experience in backend or platform engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to develop microservices and REST/gRPC APIs.
• Experience in building database-backed systems with complex, evolving schemas.
• Experience in creating deterministic rules or policy-driven platforms.
• Direct experience with integrating enterprise rules engines such as Drools, ODM, DMN, OPA, or equivalent.
• Strong expertise in Java and/or Python.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity and accuracy.
• Preferred: experience in designing versioned schemas and backward-compatible APIs.
• Preferred: knowledge of high-throughput, low-latency architectures.
• Preferred: understanding of explainability, auditability, and stringent compliance requirements.
• Preferred: background in regulated or high-compliance sectors.
• Reliable home internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload.
