Senior Server/Cloud Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and manage Windows Server and Linux (RHEL/CentOS) systems that support enterprise applications and services.

• Lead the transition of legacy on-premises data center workloads to AWS GovCloud.

• Assist with the customer's initiative to exit the data center, which includes four planned data center consolidations.

• Oversee VMware vSphere/vCenter environments, focusing on capacity planning, patch management, and lifecycle management.

• Develop and sustain infrastructure-as-code and configuration management practices for consistent and auditable deployments.

• Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and identity/access management within hybrid environments.

• Collaborate with security engineering to address vulnerabilities, implement STIG/hardening baselines, and support ongoing monitoring efforts.

• Engage in the design and testing of solutions for business disaster recovery and continuity for critical financial and mission systems.

• Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and runbooks.

• Provide Tier 3 escalation support.

• Take part in an on-call rotation for production incidents.

• Assist Koniag IT Systems and its federal civilian government client during data center consolidation and cloud modernization efforts.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in server and/or cloud engineering positions.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Expertise in administering Windows Server and Linux operating systems within an enterprise context.

• Practical experience in migrating workloads to AWS; experience with AWS GovCloud is highly preferred.

• Proficiency with VMware virtualization (vSphere/vCenter) at an enterprise scale.

• Experience with Containers/Kubernetes, FinOps/cost-optimization, and Zero Trust principles.

• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools such as Terraform and Ansible.

• Strong grasp of enterprise networking, Active Directory, and the fundamentals of identity/access management.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Capacity to produce technical documentation and diagrams.

• Ability to obtain public trust clearance.

• Experience in a federal government IT environment is desirable.

• AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate certification is preferred.

• VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or equivalent certification is preferred.

• Experience with federal data center exit/consolidation projects is preferred.

• Experience in supporting financial, loan-servicing, or capital-access application environments is preferred.

• Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53 controls and FedRAMP-authorized cloud services is preferred.
