Senior SDET – Performance Testing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Set performance baselines for essential services, which include SLIs, SLOs, latency, throughput, error-rate targets, and workload models derived from production traffic and user behavior.

• Develop a unified performance testing framework and create production-like Kubernetes and cloud environments equipped with test data.

• Assess new performance testing tools through proof-of-concept evaluations.

• Incorporate automated performance regression checks into CI/CD processes along with trend reporting.

• Carry out load, stress, soak, and spike testing.

• Execute capacity planning in anticipation of peak events.

• Examine bottlenecks across API, database, queue, and frontend layers utilizing traces, metrics, logs, and profiling techniques.

• Collaborate with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to perform root cause analysis.

• Analyze performance metrics and convert insights into practical engineering recommendations.

• Impact technical decisions across engineering teams.

• Mentor and oversee junior team members.

• Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing capabilities to elevate performance standards within the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in performance, scalability, or reliability engineering or testing, showcasing instances of identifying and resolving bottlenecks in production-level systems.

• Practical experience with at least one contemporary load-testing tool (k6, Gatling, or Locust), including realistic workload modeling and distributed load generation.

• Proficient programming skills in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java.

• Experience utilizing observability tools such as New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana, or OpenTelemetry to pinpoint root causes across API, database, and queue layers.

• Strong understanding of REST service performance, concurrency, and caching mechanisms.

• Experience integrating performance tests into CI/CD pipelines with defined pass/fail thresholds.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes and at least one major cloud provider (GCP, AWS, or Azure).

• Proficiency in runtime profiling and thread or heap analysis on the JVM or Node.js.

• Frontend performance expertise with Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse, or real user monitoring.

• Experience in employing AI-assisted tools for test design or result analysis.

• Background in NoSQL or search datastores and message brokers at scale.

• Experience with chaos or resilience testing, and conducting safe testing in production using canaries or shadow traffic.
