Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Act as the technical lead on a client platform.

• Create, develop, and manage features from start to finish within a Ruby on Rails application.

• Oversee tasks from requirements gathering to deployment and production support.

• Design and implement robust API client patterns, including features like retries, exponential backoff, circuit breaking, and handling idempotent requests.

• Integrate third-party REST APIs considering rate limits, usage quotas, or uptime requirements.

• Collaborate with AWS services at the application integration level, including RDS and Secrets Manager.

• Design and support architectures based on events and webhooks.

• Participate in CI/CD pipeline workflows and manage code promotion across various environments.

• Uphold clean commit practices and engage in thorough code reviews.

• Diagnose, triage, and resolve production issues as part of ongoing platform support.

• Communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.

• Operate independently while adhering to engineering standards, documentation, and quality discipline.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–6 years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails, covering the complete design and development of production applications.

• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, including schema design, data modeling, and optimizing query performance.

• Established experience in integrating third-party REST APIs, especially those with rate limits, quotas, or uptime requirements.

• Proficient in designing resilient API clients featuring retries, exponential backoff, circuit breaking, and idempotency handling.

• Familiarity with AWS services at the application integration level, particularly RDS and Secrets Manager.

• Practical experience with background job processing frameworks such as Sidekiq or ActiveJob.

• Knowledge of event-driven or webhook-based system architectures.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and structured promotion workflows across environments.

• Strong understanding of Ruby and Rails fundamentals, idioms, and best practices.

• Disciplined git workflow habits and experience in participating in code reviews.

• Preferred experience in building rules-based or deterministic calculation/business-logic engines with configurable, versioned parameters.

• Preferred experience in integrating multiple third-party data APIs and reconciling or blending their outputs.

• Preferred exposure to logistics, freight, transportation, or supply chain systems.

• Preferred experience transitioning from a build team to a long-term support or maintenance role.

• Preferred exposure to handling timezone-sensitive data.

• Preferred experience with Jira or similar ticketing and prioritization systems.

• Preferred experience with incident triage and root cause analysis.

• Preferred experience in maintaining technical documentation and knowledge bases.

• Preferred experience mentoring junior or mid-level engineers.

• Capability to function as a senior technical owner with considerable autonomy.

• Clear written communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to maintain strong documentation and quality discipline throughout a long-term engagement.
