Senior Project Manager, Interconnection Projects – Grid Infrastructure Delivery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the delivery of interconnection engineering, SCADA and telemetry systems, and grid infrastructure for thermal energy storage projects across various RTOs/ISOs.

• Oversee engineering firms from the concept phase to the issued-for-construction design for substations, switchyards, Point of Interconnection (POI) configurations, protection and control, metering, grounding, and equipment specifications.

• Ensure that designs integrate interconnection studies and GIA/LGIA/DIA obligations, while addressing changes that may impact design, costs, or schedules.

• Lead coordination efforts with utilities and transmission owners regarding facilities and network upgrades.

• Manage interfaces between the Owner’s Engineer and EPC, define scope boundaries, coordinate the procurement of long-lead equipment, negotiate terms, and supervise construction activities.

• Deliver comprehensive packages for construction and commissioning processes.

• Draft Statements of Work (SOWs) and handle Requests for Proposals (RFPs), bid assessments, contracting, purchase orders, invoices, budgets, change management, and project closeout.

• Maintain reusable SOW templates, vendor qualification standards, and criteria for bid evaluation.

• Define the scope and contract for SCADA/telemetry engineering, and ascertain responsibilities for detailed SCADA/DCS engineering and programming.

• Propel innovative measurement techniques for reportable state of charge and take ownership of settlement-quality metering design and validation.

• Align ICCP configuration and conduct Open Loop/Closed Loop testing in accordance with RTO requirements.

• Manage integrated schedules, critical paths, dependencies, milestones, portfolio deliverables, technical assumptions, unresolved issues, and correspondence with RTOs/TOs.

• Collaborate with teams from engineering, development, execution, product, operations, commercial, legal, and finance departments.

• Effectively communicate cost, schedule, and risk to leadership and non-technical stakeholders, and promptly escalate critical-path exposure.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience managing capital energy or electric infrastructure projects, including generation, storage, substations, or transmission.

• Direct responsibility for vendor scope, budgets, schedules, and change management processes.

• Proficient in designing interconnection configurations, assessing feasibility, selecting and procuring equipment, and coordinating interconnection/substation engineering with utilities and transmission owners.

• Ability to identify deficiencies in one-line diagrams, protection schemes, point lists, interface control documents, and architecture diagrams.

• Utility-scale generator experience in SCADA, telemetry, protection and control, or substation automation.

• Familiarity with interconnection studies, GIA/LGIA obligations, and the scoping, costing, and construction of interconnection facilities and network upgrades.

• Strong technical writing skills.

• Capability to independently manage multiple concurrent projects across different geographies and stakeholders, handle ambiguity, prioritize competing deadlines, and raise issues in a timely manner.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, another engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Desired: experience with ICCP, RTU integration, RTO telemetry validation, resource integration, or ICCP modeling teams.

• Desired: background in synchronous generator telemetry, settlement-quality metering, and configurations related to co-located, hybrid, or surplus interconnections.

• Desired: experience in utility, transmission owner, IPP, or developer-side project delivery.
